Artist Practice in Academia: Architecture for Kids

Project type

Academia and pedagogical practice

Date

2018

Location

Stockholm

This project represents an innovative approach to introducing architectural principles to young minds. Conducted in collaboration with Järfälla Municipality, the program was implemented across kindergartens and a primary school, engaging children aged 5 and above. The sessions aimed to simplify complex architectural concepts, helping the children understand the basics of city planning, three-dimensional forms, and the importance of balance, geometry, and imagination in design.

Through activities like building neighborhood models, drawing, and crafting, the children explored architecture as a tool to visualize their surroundings. They practiced teamwork, critical thinking, and spatial analysis while discovering how cities function and evolve. This experience fostered creative engagement, bridging architecture and education, and underscored how accessible and impactful architectural learning can be for children. It also provided insights into the pedagogical value of teaching design concepts to young learners, paving the way for them to think critically about the spaces they inhabit.
